PLAN TO ATTEND THIS UPCOMING EVENT:  Saturday, May 17, 10 AM at the historic Chico Grange (2775 Nord Ave. -- old Nord Hwy/not Hwy 32, Chico): Butte Folk Music Society presents an all-day HOMEGROWN MUSIC FESTIVAL featuring an array of musicians during the day and an evening dance with one of Chico's most popular bands, the Stevie Cook Acoustic Band. Food and beverage vendors as well as arts and crafts vendors will also be present. There will be some activities geared for children.  Tickets are low cost at $5, children 12 and under are FREE, making it a family-friendly event.  Tickets available NOW at The Music Connection and Lyon Books. More information to follow. Volunteers are needed to help at this festival. fiddle, dobro, bass, and bluegrass harmonica are encouraged to come and jam with us.  People who like to sing bluegrass songs, or listen
to bluegrass, or simply want to know what the heck bluegrass IS are encouraged to come. ~~~While the jam will be from 2 to 5:30, the first

An edited portion of it will be aired on the  May 1st  "A Monthly Stroll" from 5:30 to 7 PM.  The theme of the "May Day" special will be American songs and music of political protest and resistance featuring Pete Seeger, Utah Phillips, Studs Terkel, and others.  We will be doing more shows/work later with the rest of the interview but just can't fit the whole interview into a 90 minute slot. Sunday, May 4, Noon -  5:30 PM:  Cowboy Sunday at the Verboom Ranch west of Orland.  Cowboy Sunday starts with a tri-tip BBQ from 12:00 to 1:30 pm.  The worship service will begin at 1PM with a gospel concert by Frank Ray and Cedar Hill (from Missouri).  Following the concert will be a message by Richard Winters.  A kid's rodeo including mutton busting; a calf scramble; and a soaped pig contest will follow the service.  While the rodeo is going on there will also be horseback rides for the kids.  At the same time there will be a gospel bluegrass jam on the stage as well as in small groups so you are encouraged to
bring your instruments and participate. Cost for the barbecue is $5 per person and kids under 6 years old eat free. Cowboy Sunday is an outreach ministry of the Orland Evangelical Free Church in Orland, CA.  For more information call Grant Garland at

The worship service will begin at 1PM with a gospel concert by Frank Ray and Cedar Hill (from Missouri). Following the concert will be a message by Richard Winters. A kid's rodeo including mutton busting; a calf scramble; and a soaped pig contest will follow the service. While the rodeo is going on there will also be horseback rides for the kids. At the same time there will be a gospel bluegrass jam on the stage as well as in small groups so you are encouraged to bring your instruments and participate. Food and beverage vendors as well as arts and crafts vendors will also be present. Sunday, May 4, Noon -  5:30 PM:  Cowboy Sunday at the Verboom Ranch west of Orland.  Cowboy Sunday starts with a tri-tip BBQ from 12:00 to 1:30 pm.  The worship service will begin at 1PM with a gospel concert by Frank Ray and Cedar Hill (from Missouri).  Following the concert will be a message by Richard Winters.  A kid's rodeo including mutton busting; a calf scramble; and a soaped pig contest will follow the service.  While the rodeo is going on there will also be horseback rides for the kids.  At the same time there will be a gospel bluegrass jam on the stage as well as in small groups so you are encouraged to bring your instruments and participate. Cost for the barbecue is $5 per person and kids under 6 years old eat free. Sunday, May 4, Noon -  5:30 PM:  Cowboy Sunday at the Verboom Ranch west of Orland.  Cowboy Sunday starts with a tri-tip BBQ from 12:00 to 1:30 pm.  The worship service will begin at 1PM with a gospel concert by Frank Ray and Cedar Hill (from Missouri).  Following the concert
will be a message by Richard Winters.  A kid's rodeo including mutton busting; a calf scramble; and a soaped pig contest will follow the service.  While the rodeo is going on there will also be horseback rides for the kids.  At the same time there will be a gospel bluegrass jam on the stage as well as in small groups so you are encouraged to bring your instruments and participate. Cost for the barbecue is $5 per person and kids under 6 years old eat free. Saturday, April 5,  8 PM:  Classical Guitar Project at Cafe Coda (Humboldt Ave., Chico). $5 at the door. "University Night" is the theme of this evening's event.  Tobin Roye, who heads up the guitar program at CSU, Chico, will be showcasing himself and some of his best students as a preview of his full length recital on April 16.  That performance will be a fundraiser for the guitar program, and next Saturday several solo selections, as well as some guitar ensemble works will be performed at the cafe.  Matt Fish, who has performed a couple of times already at the Cafe, and Luciano Marazzo, who was heard there on the Project earlier this month will be on hand to play some some duos and trios.  (The May show will be a "luthier night". Several guitar builders will showcase their instruments and talk about the finely specialized art of classic guitar building. )

Sunday, April 6, 2 PM:   Dr. Robert Bowman's Retirement Concert and Reception in Ruth Rowland -Taylor Recital Hall (PAC 134). The mostly
Russian favorites concert is free and open to the public.  He will be joined by Cellist Burke Schuchmann and Flutist Yael Ronan.  The program includes Prokofiev's SONATA for piano #1 in f minor; Haydn's last TRIO in G major for flute, cello, and piano, Prokofiev's SONATA in D major, Op. 97 r for flute and piano, Rachmaninoff's PRELUDE for piano in e minor, Op. 32 #4, and his SONATA in g minor, Op. 19 for cello and piano.  Donations for the Jane Bowman Jewett and John Svec Award will be grateful accepted.  The Butte County Branch of the Music Teacher's Association of California will honor Dr. Bowman by hosting a reception immediately following the concert in the PAC 132 Rehearsal Hall.

Thursday to Sunday, April 10 to 13:  CBA annual spring campout will be at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds in Turlock .  This is a beautiful location with lots of level, shady, grassy space for RVs as well as tents.  Many RV hookups are available.  If you've never been to a CBA campout, you don't know what you're missing – 3 days of relaxation, picking, & singing with your old friends as well as the new ones you'll make.  No stage acts except for a band scramble.  You can even bring your pets to the campouts because they aren't so crowded.  The only charge is for camping, $15/night for RVs & $10/night for tents. Sunday, May 4, Noon -  5:30 PM:  Cowboy Sunday at the Verboom Ranch west of Orland.  Cowboy Sunday starts with a tri-tip BBQ from 12:00 to
1:30 pm.  The worship service will begin at 1PM with a gospel concert by Frank Ray and Cedar Hill (from Missouri).  Following the concert will be a message by Richard Winters.  A kid's rodeo including mutton busting; a calf scramble; and a soaped pig contest will follow the service.  While the rodeo is going on there will also be horseback rides for the kids.  At the same time there will be a gospel bluegrass jam on the stage as well as in small groups so you are encouraged to bring your instruments and participate. Cost for the barbecue is $5 per person and kids under 6 years old eat free.
